About the Gliding Club
The University of York Gliding Club flies from the Wolds Gliding Club near Pocklington.
We charge £10 membership for the academic year, including your first flight (although please note York Sport membership is also currently required). Instruction in dual-control gliders from qualified instructors is free, but in exchange you’re expected to help out with the gliders on the ground when you aren’t flying. After that you only pay for your flights: by joining our club you gain access to the special student rate of £5 for a winch launch and a flight of up to 10 minutes, any further minutes are charged at 29p each.
We usually meet at Goodricke James Cash Point (outside the Physics entrance), and committee members often go at weekends, although the club is open all days but Monday. Free transport is often available, otherwise you can get the bus from campus or from the centre of York.
In previous years we have flown from the York Gliding Centre at Rufforth.
