York University Gliding Club

The University of York Gliding Club flies from the Wolds Gliding Club near Pocklington.

We charge £10 membership for the academic year, although York Sport membership is also currently required. Instruction in dual-control gliders from qualified instructors is free, although in exchange you’re expected to help out with the gliders on the ground when you aren’t flying. After that you only pay for your flights: A typical 10 minute long flight from a winch costs about £10.

We usually meet at Goodricke James Cash Point (outside the Physics entrance), and committee members have been going on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, although the club is open all days but Monday.

We’re organizing an open day on Saturday 31st October, costing £20, which includes club membership, transport to and from the club and one flight from a winch.

In previous years we have flown from the York Gliding Centre at Rufforth.
